Literary Analysis of Book 5 - A Ring of Endless Light

Suspense, Foreshadowing, Surprise Endings, Etc.
A few examples of this topic is Zachary and the old lady and the events in the plane. Binnie almost dies, and Grandfather has his medical problems. It shocks the reader immensely when Binnie says her father doesn't want her to have medicine. The porpoises are clubbed to death by Japanese fishermen, and Binnie dies. A partly surprising ending is that Grandfather doesn't die in this book.

Symbolism
For symbolism, Basil signifies joy, hope and wisdom, and Adam is comfort and assurance. Zachary is reckless and rich and jumps into things, showing his possible lack of desire to be in this life.

Figurative Language and Imagery
An example of figurative language and imagery in this book is "...island of star sparkled sky."
